Living Independently
Independent Living Skills
When you leave foster care it is important that you have the skills to live independently. Before you are offered independent accommodation, you will most likely have to complete an independent living skills course.
On the course you will learn all sorts of things from budgeting your money to cooking, to paying bills; all the things you will need to know when living by yourself.
Social services Leaving Care Pod run an Independent Living course. Ask your PA for details.
Sussex Central YMCA DownsLink Group runs a Skillz for Life course which lasts for 6 weeks. It covers a diverse range of topics from advice on tenancy and budgeting to drugs, alcohol and relationships. There will also be an opportunity for 1-to-1 sessions with specialised advice on areas such as building a CV or finding a flat.
Find out more about Skillz for Life or they offer a drop-in service which is open Monday-Friday 9am-12pm.
